Why Mindfulness for Health Professionals?

In recent times Health and Mental Health Professionals, Universities, the UK NHS (National Health Service) and Health Service organisations worldwide are adopting Mindfulness-based approaches to therapy, client and worker care and wellbeing.

What is MBCT?

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) forms the basis of much of the Centre’s work and is a state of the art set of tools which combines Mindfulness and Cognitive Therapy. Mindfulness was originally derived from Buddhist meditation and has been used for thousands of years. MBCT draws heavily from Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and like MBSR was developed in a Western context for meditators and non-meditators alike. Our Health and Mental Health Professional courses combine Eastern and Western philosophies and focus on teaching new techniques to approach, perceive, feel and react to thoughts and situations as they occur. Participants say the training helps them and their clients access a richer, clearer, more productive and happier state – more often.

How do professionals learn Mindfulness?

We learn mindfulness by experiencing mindfulness. In our research-based training courses we teach these powerful awareness and acceptance skills that can change the way we think about and experience our life and relationships. All of our modules are experiential in nature, incorporating elements of mindfulness and other meditations, theoretical models and discussion and are presented in exactly the way one would work with a client. Why Professionals Train in Mindfulness?

Mindfulness-based training develops metacognitive skills that individuals, therapists and clients use to bring a meaningful difference to the way we think about, experience and resolve depression and other troubling situations and feel happier – more often.
