Mindful Communication - family, work and personal relationships
Do you have clients who struggle with the demands of being a parent? Would you like to help those clients build positive family relationships? If so, we invite professionals to attend the dedicated professional extended version of our Introduction to Mindful Parenting workshop.
This workshop is designed for professionals who work with adults that parent and are interested in exploring how living ‘mindfully’ in the present moment can assist their clients to have nourishing relationships and give their children the structure and love they need to reach their potential. Participants often find the material is of value in both their work and personal lives.

Mindfulness provides tools and techniques to identify the reality of a situation and follow what is important. This means cultivating skills that allow one to move beyond unhelpful emotions, restrictive preconceptions and expectations.
During this 5 hour workshop you will spend the first 3 hours learning exactly what the parents learn, then the dedicated professional extension covers professional application and key relevant research:
- The principles of Mindfulness and how to apply these to parenting
- How parents can disengage from conflict when it happens
- How parents can respond to their child’s behaviour with compassion and love
- How the concepts of mindfulness relate to attachment theory and other parenting programs
- Some simple mindful meditations.
Mindful Parenting differs from many parenting approaches in that the focus moves from the ‘naughty corner’ and other artificial consequences for children, to looking at the relationship and changing the behaviour of both the adult and the child. Grounded in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, this workshop presents tools that combine contemplative (Mindfulness) practice with psychological theory (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and research.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a relatively new approach for dealing with challenging emotions in a range of situations. It is both recommended as a treatment of choice for depression by UK National Health and being taught in some USA medical schools as part of the curriculum.
“Mindful parenting is about learning to experience family life fully, as it unfolds - moment by moment.”
Myla Kabat-Zinn, author of Everyday Blessings

The overall approach presented gives adults more techniques to stay in their adult role, rather than reacting automatically to the emotion of a situation or behaviour. Through learning additional ways to help one remain present and loving, parents become more open to experiencing the fullness of their life with their children and transforming moments of despair and struggle to ones of communication and positive connection.
Attend this workshop to learn new ways to help your clients and yourself too!
The course is facilitated by Fiona Glover (BA, BSW, M. Mental Health Sc) an accredited mental health social worker, meditator, and mother, with over 12 years experience in the field of mental health, and over 5 years experience running MBCT courses.
