MPsych (Clin), MAPS – Clinical Psychologist
Mal works part time in public mental health in Northern NSW and part time in private practice as a Clinical Psychologist. He is a member of the College of Clinical Psychologists.
Mal has written mindfulness-based program for clinical settings and for research. Since 1991 he has used mindfulness training in clinical intervention individually as well as in groups, courses and retreats. He has led and co-led meditation retreats, written and conducted validated mindfulness-based programs for different clinical and non-clinical populations and has taught hundreds of therapists in conferences, seminars, workshops and courses both in Australia and internationally.
Mal has previously lived in Thailand as a fully ordained Buddhist monk. He has many years of experience in Buddhist meditation, including a large number of intensive retreats in Burma, Thailand, Australia and USA. He is particularly interested in demonstrating ways to integrate the 2600 year old empirically based practices of Buddhist psychology with contemporary clinical psychology.
