Stressed? Depressed? Unhappy?
Even capable people need a hand sometimes
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
9 week courses, Fullarton & Hindmarsh, SA
“I went from burnt out to fired up” Chris Ridley, Past participant
Everybody experiences stress, and at times this can lead to anxiety, depression, burn out, or just plain chronic unhappiness. Stress can also exacerbate pain and health concerns. It is not a matter of intellect or diligence but rather a combination of physiological, social, psychological and biochemical factors - often unseen.
Many people learn a range of different techniques and strategies to find their way through significant episodes of stress, anxiety or depression. Despite their efforts, research shows that up to 70% of people can slip back into these states even when they have found their way through them before.
You can do something about it. You can learn to relax and manage with more ease, kindness and joy, and also prevent yourself from ending up on the same old merry-go-round.
This practical 9 week Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course teaches you to understand the causes of your stress, depression and unhappiness and offers powerful, well researched skills and techniques to lower your stress now. During the MBCT course you will also create a personalised wise action plan specific to you and your circumstances, to prevent you from slipping back into stress, anxiety or depression in the future, and help you to live a more joyful life instead.
Past participants say you can:
- Increase your energy and enthusiasm for life
- Heighten your self-confidence
- Significantly reduce the impact of stress, anxiety and depression
- Develop a sense of calmness, focus and joy.
Research shows mindfulness based training reduces stress and anxiety and can increase quality of life, which is why MBCT is a recommended treatment of choice for recurrent depression.
What is Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)?
MBCT combines mindfulness-based meditation (MB) and cognitive therapy (CT). Both participants with a long history of meditation, and those new to meditation, find the applied nature of the course very useful to their daily lives.
Mindfulness meditation is not about emptying your mind and dropping into a state of nothingness, but rather a type of meditation that lets you see more clearly the subtle workings of your mind, emotions and physical body so that you know what is going on and how to respond to your own needs.
“Mindfulness offers a powerful form of insight not available through cognitive reflection and self-analysis” Past participant
The course structure:
MBCT is a training course, giving information, teaching skills and techniques, and allowing for discussion. It is not group therapy, even though the result is often therapeutic. Each week you learn new skills and practices building on the previous weeks’ exercises and discussions. MBCT shows you how to translate the insights gained in mindfulness meditation into wise action for significant change.
During the first session we will introduce you to the course, explain how and why Mindfulness–based Cognitive Therapy helps you develop and maintain an increased sense of calmness, focus and joy, and answer any questions you have.
We also give you pre-course questionnaires to complete so that you can assess your own changes over the course, and so that we can address any specific needs.
You are invited to do up to an hour of homework each day throughout the course in order to integrate new learning for long term profound change.
