Mindful Mums - 9 Week MBCT Program for Mums

Every moment with your children can be special if you know how. Your awareness of your children can go beyond the automatic actions and reactions that often drive your behavior. You can free yourself from being stuck in guilt, regret, fear and uncertainty. In essence, you can take on life with your children as an adventure in growth and learning and feeling.
The hardest part of shifting to a new way of being is becoming aware of those old patterns that so often rule our behavior. Mindfulness offers a fresh perspective, a way of changing mental gears, so we can respond to each situation moment-to-moment.
If you want to understand the causes of your stress, and learn powerful skills and techniques to relax and manage the demands of motherhood with more ease, kindness and joy, then attend this practical 9 week course, designed specifically for mothers.
By participating in the 9-week Mindful Mums course, you will learn to:
- Respond mindfully rather than react automatically to your child’s behaviour
- Be honest with yourself, and allow the space to develop inner clarity
- Listen to children effectively and communicate your needs respectfully
- Disengage from conflict when it happens
- Believe in and honour the fundamental goodness and autonomy of your children

Having a child is a momentous occasion that brings with it great changes for you and those around you. Motherhood can be a joyous experience, and it can also be stressful at times. For some mothers prolonged stress can lead to anxiety, depression, burn out, health concerns and it can affect your relationship with your child and your partner.
At these times it may help to STOP and really examine your life and ask, 'Is this really working for me?' If the answer is no then it is time to make some new choices. Change can be difficult, venturing into new territory can be scary.
Mindful Mums offers support and guidance in making these changes. The course is based on the world renowned MBCT course, designed for managing stress and preventing depression and anxiety in times of challenge. It combines cognitive behaviour therapy (CT) and mindfulness meditation. Mindful Mums is a therapeutic training course, giving you information, skills, and techniques. The course also allows for you to develop insights into how you can develop greater connections with your children, and parent in a more “mindful” and positive way. Each week you will learn new skills and practices building on the previous weeks’ exercises and discussions.

The course is facilitated by Fiona Glover (BA, BSW, M. Mental Health Sc) an accredited mental health social worker, meditator, and mother, with over 12 years experience in the field of mental health, working for 8 years with Child Adolescent Mental Health Services and over 5 years experience running MBCT courses.
Cost: $590 ($490 Health Care Card), Medicare rebates of $158 for the course apply for participants who have a Mental Health Plan from their GP.
